So my 1991 Camaro with 350 tuned port injection will run at 180 at night time but during the day it will slowly creep up and over 220and the faster I go the quicker it heats up. I have a 160 degree thermostat new water pump and it has dual cooling fans that are constantly on and it doesn't want to stay cool.

Hello, Some basic questions here........ Do you have that plastic baffle thing that is directly below the radiator? How old is the Radiator, It might need to be flushed... Also have you cleaned in between the ac condenser and radiator How old are the hoses, they could be collapsing ..... How old is the thermostat, it could be sticking .....
I had a the wrong temp sensor in the driver head, and it was reading higher than it actually was! I don't trust the part store employees very much
And I highly recommend 1998-2002 LS1 F-Body, CAMARO, Trans Am Fans

you need to answer all questions above. also a 160 therm is a little low for a fuel injected engine unless you have a chip for it.
on another note i have the ls1 fans mentioned above. they are awsome. but they will need to be modified for them to work since they need to be clearanced for the steering gear.

stage one or two. even stage 2 asks for a 180 thermo. if i were you i would put a 180 therm and make sure the radiator damn is there on the bottom.

Sorry about all the mistakes. This website and my smartphone don't get along. I had a 180 degree thermostat and it got hotter way faster! I have one of those after market temp gauges with the non electric sensors because the heat off or my headers were causing it to read way wrong.

have you done any work to the cooling system at all lately?? try this simple thing. i started getting a bad reading on temp and using a lot of fuel once. i let the car cool. loosened the rad cap but didnt remove it. loosened my coolant temp sensor in the intake and it bleed out a lot of air. after that all went back to normal. just something to try and it is free.

Hey Axehole, Im from texas and the summers can get a little toasty, so I'll rule that one out haha.
one92rs I just put my water pump in last night, I bought the heavy duty its quite a bit larger than the regular one, I didn't know that you had to bleed these systems out?

yes you do have to bleed the air out. and you got the right direction water pump i hope. 1991 is a reverse cooling system.

and on another note. i have seen heavy duty water pumps and most of them are the same size as stock but move more water due to the blades being different. not i am wondering if you have the wrong one.

yeah i took the back plate off before i bought it, its moving plenty of water, and i have 3 gallons of antifreeze in into to one gallon of distilled water. i was leaning towards head gaskets because the previous owner had done the heads but it doesnt make sense why it will run cool at night but not in the day..

ok now that explains something. you need more water than antifreeze. always. it should be the other way around. i run 1 gallon antifreeze and the rest distilled water or drinking water. the antifreeze is just there to raise the boiling point and keep it from freezing. nothing else. AND IT DOES NOT LUBRICATE A DAMN THING! im sure you have heard that. if it were me. i would drain the radiator. put all distilled or drinking water back in with a bottle of water wetter or purple ice. bleed the system and try again. i bet the problem goes away.
a system with too much antifreeze will run hot as the water pump cannot move the SLIME ( antifreeze ) as well as water. water is the best coolant ever. it dissipates heat way better than anything.

Hmm thats interesting. I'll try that. Even though I've always ran all my cars that way, I'll get back to you with the results, thank you.
